Nova Notícia Autor: STJ The Minister Luis Felipe Solomon, the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), will chair the committee of lawyers formed to submit a proposal for reform of the Law of Arbitration and Mediation. The matter is now regulated by Law 9307 of September 23, 1996, which resulted in the project then Senator Marco Maciel. The commission will be installed the next day 3, Wednesday, at 10 am, in the auditorium of the Senate, by Senator Renan, president of the house.
The installation of the committee, which will have 180 days, was authorized by the Senate to approve the Application 702/12, authored by Senator Calheiros. For him, the arbitration ceased to be regarded with reservation and became the system of dispute resolution adopted preferentially in some segments of society.
According to Minister Luis Felipe Solomon, the commission's objective is to strengthen the arbitration as a viable means of quickly and conflict resolution. Besides him, the commission will make the minister Walton Alencar Rodrigues, the Court of Audit, Minister Ellen Gracie, retired Supreme Court, and former Senator Marco Maciel.
Rounding out the group's lawyers José Antonio Fichtner, Caio Cesar Rocha, José Rogério Tucci and Cruz, Marcelo Rossi Nobre, Francisco Maciel Antunes Müssnich, Tatiana Lacerda Prazeres, Adriana Braghetta, Carlos Alberto Carmona, Eleonora Coelho, Pedro Guerra Paul Medeiros, Sylvia Rodrigues Pachikoski Francisco Maia Neto, André Martins Chateaubriand, José Roberto Neves de Oliveira and Marcelo Henriques.

Arbitration is a means of resolving disputes between individuals or corporations, other than that offered by the judiciary. It aims to ensure that parties a more practical, effective and expeditious dispute, which should be selected by mutual agreement by the parties before or after the emergence of the controversy.
Survey by the Getulio Vargas Foundation in 2010 found that the values ​​handled by arbitration grew 185%, from R $ 867 million in 2008 to R $ 2.4 billion in 2009.
The study involved arbitrations made by companies, suppliers and consumers in five international chambers of commerce operating in Brazil, three in Sao Paulo, one in Rio de Janeiro and another in Minas Gerais.
